My apologies for neglecting to blog much, I think it may be as William Gibson says, paraphrased, it is an odd feeling to blog about my work. It would be much more appealing to blog about my sport kiting, or maybe my interesting encounters as a rangemaster, although, I'm not sure the anti firearms folks need that information.
Having said that, here is the latest Rifleart news. We are putting the finishing touches on a couple of U tube videos. We documented two Spacescape paintings, brushstroke by brushstroke. For me the results are so interesting, that we may continue to document the occasional painting. I am fascinated to see the individual results of each brushstroke, especially the response of the canvas at the point of impact.
Sarah is also painting on the freshly blackened canvases. To add lines and figures in the background is giving the finished paintings a very interesting depth and flow. As a thank you and acknowledgment of her contribution, her last work is signed with her chop.
With the late spring here in Seattle, and the almost no summer, it was a very short season. We completed four 36 X 48 Spacescape paintings. There are also two smaller Spacescapes to finish, one needs shrapnel damage repair, and Sarah is about finished with the other. It turns out that canvas repair is quite the obscure bit of knowledge base. We are experimenting with techniques learned from internet search, most folks in the art culture look at you with a puzzled expression when you talk about canvas repair. We are getting better with our repair skills, but are not perfect yet. On the Spacescape that Sarah has been working on for some time, it looks really wonderfully intense. She had me lay down a pattern with my rifle, and then she started painting on top of it. We then added more of that intensity with my rifle with more of Sarah's painting and wash treatments. I look forward to sharing it with you, the folks who have come over notice it and really like it. So, in the near future, we will be posting six new spacescape paintings for your viewing.
Finally, we would like to introduce to you the latest member of Team Rifleart. Mat Chacon has joined us as our video editor. Thank you for the great job on video editing. He is a champion small bore shooter and a really great guy. Thank you Mat.
