season opens

We are starting work on two 36 X 48 canvases today. Our plan is to get some video footage of the painting process. I have camera and tripod ready for a first attempt, there is a possibility that i will have a custom painted tripod and camera at the end of the day.

Our focus for this seasons paintings is for more detail in each canvas. By that I mean, multiple bursts in a vision of expanding galaxies. An experimental canvas was created at the last of the season, almost destroyed, and has been accepted into the family of Rifleart paintings. The larger canvases give the opportunity to create more detail. Sarah becomes the factor in pacing, reminding me to slow down, the discussion continues as we mix paint this morning. The large canvases demand this slower pace, one that is hard for me to adjust to. All Rifleart painting preceding the Spacescape series were done in four brushstrokes. It is Sarah's influence, with her intuitive color choice, and her slow down attitude, that has made the Spacescape series so dynamic. We will post photos and film as they become available.

Moving into the new year

We are planning to attend the closing show at the Blaubak Gallery on January 1st. For me, seeing these paintings, in a large grouping, with such good lighting, has been a real treat. I will be happy to have our personal collection of paintings back in our bedroom. Having lived with them for so long, they have been missed. I particularly enjoy watching the change of light and the corresponding change of colors of these special high metallic content paints.

We are discussing with a filmmaker friend the idea of producing a YouTube video of our painting style. I would like to show, from a black canvas, each brushstroke in high speed filming, to the finishing touches of a Spacescape painting. Rifleart has been quite the spectator event that to me equals the joy of watching a good glassblower at work. This way we can share this event with more of you that can not make it out to the range on painting day.

We are gearing up for this seasons first painting. Our plan is to do a more elaborate Spacescape series on 36 X 48 canvases. Our first experimental attempt has quite the visual impact due to its large size. This seasons production will move along at a much slower pace with much thought put into each brushstroke. As the size of the canvases has increased, it has become necessary to slow the pace.

With the closing of the Blaubak show, we will be seeking out another showing. Team Rifleart is already discussing the logistics of our next show. Lynn Bier is particularly excited to perform another gallery composition with these paintings. Please let us know of any new possibilities of a gallery showing that you may be aware of. As always, thanks for the interest and support, Glenn

Set up at Blaubak

Team Rifleart met at Blaubak Gallery for some setup time. The magic that Sarah, Lynn, & LaMarr accomplished was incredible. I did the unwrapping and then just watched the magic happen. Lynn Bier requested a good assortment of paintings so he could create a composition with them, I now understand. We are showing a multi-panel painting in the easel it was created in, you know that thing about a picture and a thousand words. We were offered more wall space, so, Sarah, Lynn, & LaMarr will be meeting to finish on Thursday. The final Lynn composition will be a surprise to me, I can't wait, hope you can be there.

Winding down for the season

We are finishing the last of this seasons Spacescape series tonight. The 30 X 40 canvases are a great format for this series, and there will be four of them soon. It seems like each series becomes more complex, with more steps involved before completion. Next seasons offerings really reflect that trend. With the 36 X 48's, we have the opportunity to explore the possibility of creating paintings within the painting. This size jump is substantial, and offers quite the potential for something good. I am excited to make this size jump and work in the change in format at the same time, if successful, next seasons paintings will make a quantum leap in quality. As for size, the 30 X 40's just about max out our condo walls in its existing display format. I can think of only one wall that will be able to accommodate the 36 X 48 size painting, and I do look forward to seeing it drying there soon. My apologies about the lag time in between creation and posting here, you are more than welcome to view the latest paintings hanging in my office at work. My thanks to those who show interest and support.

Progress report

At this point, the new Spacescape paintings are coming in. We have five completed, three in process & more waiting to be painted. We are doing the major push against the ending of the season. Once the rain comes to tropical Seattle, we stop for the season.

The Spacescape Series has gone large with one 30 X 40 finished, one in process, & two waiting to be painted. Our plan is to finish the season with a 36 X 48. I have foreseen that the 36 X 48's may become next season's new series. The title is still percolating, but I am thinking about something like Multiple Universes. The plan is to do more small detail painting around the edges of the large burst. I am still in the process of constructing easel components for such a large canvas.

My apologies on the slower pace of showing the new paintings, but we have to focus on production, and on working our full time jobs. We will post photographs, descriptions, and prices as soon as possible. You are invited to participate in these last of the season paintings if you are the quiet and non intrusive type. We have been making announcements on the home page on painting days, and we paint after closing in the evenings.

To all my friends and supporters out there, thanks.

Painting time

I'm pretty excited about the next month or so. We are gearing up to create several spacescape paintings before the rain returns to the Northwest. We have four 24 X 30's , two 30 X 40's, and one 36 X 48 to paint. I am confident that the larger canvases will turn out spectacular. Team Rilfeart conducted an experiment on a couple of full size sheet rock panels and know that we can cover them.

We will be painting after closing, you know where, and are welcome to participate. Rifleart is a spectator event, and anyone with a spotting scope or binoculars has a good seat. I will place an announcement on the home page of this website on painting days.

My plan is to continue with more of the 36 X 48's if there are some dry painting days left after completion of the seven canvases. We also have two of Sarah's special canvases to complete. She has been painting on the canvas after i do my thing with them. We are close to completion on Spacescape 1 and anticipate one more range painting session to finish. Reactions from the few visitors who have seen it are extremely positive.

Spacescape series

Spacescape 2 is close to being completed. It was painted with six strokes from my 20 vartarg. Breaking from the established formula that was developed in the Multi-brushstroke Series was a surprise to me, but this painting is spectacular. Spacescape 1 is still in process, and should be finished in a couple of weeks. Sarah has been doing some interesting painting and highlighting before and after my range painting sessions, we hope you will like it. Evolving from Multi-brushstroke to Spacescape is making me slow down in this whole process, now, the painting is finished when it is finished. Spacescape 2 did not need any strokes from my .308. Our new pattern is to do a couple of brushstrokes and bring in the canvas for drying. We have found it more relaxing to paint in the evening instead of before range opening.

We will be taking some time off for a team flying workshop with iQuad. http://www.revkites.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2194

Look for Spacescape 1 and 3 in the near future, and we should be able to post Spacescape 2 before the workshop.

Our webmaster, Ed Vinyard, would like for me to be myself a little more, in this blog. He would like to find a little more behind the scenes stories and descriptions of how we do these paintings. He is of the opinion that in an effort to not offend the gunphobes, I am depriving you of some interesting stories. He figures that the phobic will eventually turn off when they learn that the painting involves firearms, so why not offend them at the start, and share with you these stories. What do you want, please chime in.

A good eye can spot Sarah and then me flying in formation with iQuad. We would like to thank John Barresi and the rest of iQuad, Steve, Bazzer, Monk, for this. Thier paitent guidence and inspiration sure helped us get to this point. The kiting community calls quad line flying "the dark side", but take it from an experienced kite flyer, quad line flying should be called the fun side. There is nothing in the kiting world as fun as having a kite that is so controllable and the skill to use it.
